A Tale of Four Parents is a gruesome fairytale in which no-one, and especially no child, is safe from horror. It tells the story of a cursed king and queen, the lengths to which they are driven to save their child from a terrible fate, and the faraway young couple, occupied with their own tragedy, whose lives become inextricably intertwined with the royal curse.
The story took me approximately a gazillion years to write, and went through about as many revisions and tweaks along the way. Somehow, despite the inordinate time it’s been part of my writing life, I’m not quite sick of the sight and sound of it, and am actually very proud of the piece. It’s not perfect, but I think it captures something of what I intended.
